What Do You Think of CAPRICA?

Just wanted to find out what everyone thinks of this show.  I posted the pilot a few weeks back.  Now they are on episode 6.  How do you like it?  What is working?  What isn’t working?  What’s driving you nuts?

I think the writing for CAPRICA is phenomenal.  I like how it is more like classic science fiction than it is action/adventure.  It takes place in your head.  It’s more about identity and the things that define us as human.

I also have to say that I love the cast.  Eric Stoltz is proving to be a fantastic anchor, and Esai Morales is great as a non-anchor; that is, someone who is not grounded.  Adama is lost, conflicted and is capable of doing just about anything.  I don’t see too many weak spots in the supporting cast either.  And I found the casting of Patton Oswalt as the talk show host was particularly ispired.

CAPRICA also boasts outstanding production design.  I love how the world is this amalgamation of past, present and future.  The old cars, the fedoras, the advanced technology, robots.  Awesome.  It’s like the colonies as a culture have no idea how to define themselves either. They appear to be repeating themselves, which has long been a symptom of a society in decline. I think it’s a nice touch.

One of my criticisms with CAPRICA is that the meta story seems to be developing rather slowly.  I know some that are getting impatient and may stop watching.  Though I am a bit more forgiving, I get where they are coming from.  Just because you have more time in television, doesn’t always mean you should take it. But then, I had this same criticism about BSG. Boy, did my patience pay off for that show. I’m inclined to see how things play out.

What do you think?  The Writing?  Acting?  Design?  Pace?  Something else not mentioned?

Chime in.
