Script Frenzy Update

Here we are at the Script Frenzy half way point. So how is it going for me? So, so. Not getting as much actual script writing done as I would like, but I am moving along with story development. It’s how I do it. I crack the story and devlop the characters in the treatment, then write the script out in a couple of weeks. At this stage, I’m at the step outline. When I do the step outline, I create a list of scenes in order and plan out the screenplay. I have zero reported script pages done, but I am about 3/4 done with the step outline.

Also, my producing partner wants some story changes, and that’s going to take some time. But that’s not at all a bad thing. My partner has a very creative mind and is very picky about story (which is one of the reasons we are partners). His input will only improve the final product.

Our intent is to make this script into a feature film. Because of this, project needs are first priority. “Winning” the frenzy is secondary. However, I still think I can bring it in on time.

So what is the script about? I will only say that it is a horror/comedy. In time, I will fill you in with all the gory details as I will be chronicling this film’s development as a live case study here at Dogponyshow.com. I will go through story development, writing the script, packaging, fundraising, all phases of production and exhibition/distribution. Watch for the announcement.

So how about you? Anyone else doing the Frenzy this year? If so, share your experiences. What do you like/dislike about the process? Are you barreling forward with your script? Are you finding the holes in your story and patching them is slowing you down?

Chime in and share. Post links to your blogs if you like. I would love to see what others are doing.

UPDATE 5/1/2011

Okay, I didn’t make it.  But 56 pages isn’t bad.  My partner and I came across a new opportunity that we had to act upon right away, so I had to set down the script and start a different one.  *sigh*

You’ve got to be ready to switch gears at all times.  Business comes first.

Perhaps next time I will “win.”  I think the trick is to already have your story plotted out and outlined before April 1st.

What do you think?
