John D. Estes has been working in one capacity or another in the movie/television business for years.

He’s been a writer, development specialist, story consultant, script doctor, blue printer, art assistant, wardrobe assistant, personal assistant, grip, PA, camera operator, coordinator, production manager, prop builder, storyboard artist, assistant director, director and is now (naturally) a producer.

Most of his experience has been with helping other filmmakers turn their ideas into movies.  From writing the script, to breaking it down, budgeting, scheduling and forming a business plan all the way to running the shoot, he has seen many projects materialize out of what once was just a pile of dreams and chutzpah.

Currently he is producing the 4-part documentary series Whitewashed Adobe: The Rise of Los Angeles and the Remaking of its Mexican Past for Chasing Light Pictures, LLC.

He is also developing a variety of his own projects including web serials, feature films and even a television series.

John also works independently in project development, offering script breakdown, scheduling, budgeting, grant writing and consultant services.

He put this blog together in order to share his knowledge, experiences and love of film with others, and to encourage others to do the same.

“I don’t pretend to know everything, but if you get everything I know and put it together with everything that everyone else in the community knows, then it’s a sure bet that in the end we will ALL know something that is much closer to everything than when we started.”
