About dogponyshow.com
Dogponyshow.com is a site designed as a resource to help independent filmmakers get their projects done.
Filmmaking can be a daunting task and there is so much to learn in order to give your project the best possible chance for success whether it be an indie feature, TV pilot, web series or short. The details might be different, but the overall process is the same; from development to pre-production to production, post production all the way to marketing and distribution.
Film is not just an art form, it’s a business. Dogponyshow.com aims to merge these sides together through guides, links to resources, tutorials, articles, inspiration and news of the latest developments in the film world. A filmmaker must know how to take their “vision” and turn it into a viable reality if they plan on staying in this business for very long.
Dogponyshow.com is also a place where filmmakers and filmwatchers can mix together and share ideas, resources and opinions. There really is no limit other than what you are willing to contribute.
Be sure to follow us on twitter, as we will sometimes link to news, articles and resources of great interest to the independent filmmaker and filmwatcher.
About John D. Estes
John D. Estes, creator and ringmaster of dogponyshow.com, has been working in one capacity or another in the movie/television industry for years.
He’s been a writer, development specialist, story consultant, script doctor, blue printer, art assistant, wardrobe assistant, personal assistant, grip, PA, camera operator, coordinator, production manager, prop builder, storyboard artist, assistant director, director and is now (naturally) an independent producer.
Most of his experience has been with helping other filmmakers turn their ideas into finished movies. From writing the script, to breaking it down, budgeting, scheduling and forming a business plan all the way to running the shoot, he has seen many finished films materialize out of what was once a pile of dreams and chutzpah.
John is a true lover of film. From big multi-million dollar spectacles to the dimestore DIY web production, well done is well done, no matter where it came from. While he loves Hollywood films as much as anyone else, he prefers to work independent of it and try new things. He is crazy for new ideas, and new ways to bring these ideas to the people.
Currently he is producing the 4-part documentary series Whitewashed Adobe: The Rise of Los Angeles and the Remaking of its Mexican Past with Chasing Light Pictures, LLC.
He is also developing a variety of his own projects including web serials, feature films and even a television series.
John works independently in project development, offering script breakdown, scheduling, budgeting, grant writing and consultant services.
He put this blog together in order to share his knowledge, experiences and love of film with others, and to encourage others to do the same.
“I don’t pretend to know everything, but if you get everything I know and put it together with everything that others know, then it’s a sure bet that in the end we will ALL know something much closer to everything than when we started.”
